Friends of the Homeless

Reveille UMC
Richmond Friends of the Homeless is a private, non-profit association devoted to making a difference in the lives of the less advantaged. It began over 20 years ago with one woman, Shawnee Hansen, serving lunch in south Richmond from the trunk of her car. Today, this organization serves over 1,500 meals each week at two locations; one south of Richmond and one downtown. In addition, food baskets and donated clothes, blankets and other necessities are distributed to those in need.

Reveille UMC partners with Friends of the Homeless to serve a hot midday meal and provide bagged lunches for FOH each month:
Midday Meal
On the fourth Thursday of each month, Reveille serves a midday meal to 180 people at Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church on North First Street. Individuals or groups may assist by:
  • Preparing potato casseroles and desserts. Casseroles may be made ahead and left in the fellowship hall refrigerator for the meal. Homemade desserts also are welcome and can be left in the fellowship hall kitchen. Be sure to mark with "FOH."
  • Serving the meal. If you would like to help serve, plan on being in the fellowship hall at 11:15 am on the day of the meal. We carpool and caravan to the feeding site, returning by 1:00 pm.
  • Giving financial support.
Contact the person organizing that month's meal for more information about the midday meal (see list below) or sign up to provide food or help serve the meal  on the sign up sheet in the welcome center.
