Reveille's New Approach to Outreach

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

One of Reveille’s longstanding strengths lies in a passionate commitment to serving God’s community locally, regionally, and internationally. Utilizing the membership visioning and discernment process over the last year or more, Church Council has purposefully developed a mission statement to guide and coordinate projects toward a collective goal in serving our brothers and sisters in Christ. That statement reads: “We commit to a focused outreach ministry and to evangelism through which Reveille makes a transformative difference.”

As the new co-chairs of the Outreach Committee for Reveille, we are charged with and committed to implementing this mission in a way that not only nurtures current and future project leaders but also inspires congregational participation. Clearly, with the myriad spiritual gifts, resources, and passionate leaders already present in Reveille’s membership, we consider our role as primarily facilitators of the mission rather than developers or creators of new and innovative projects.

Our first task, therefore, has been to develop an objective and transparent process by which projects for Reveille are determined and/or aligned with the mission statement above.   New and current projects that solicit participation, funds, or goods from the Reveille congregation as a whole are required to submit an application to the Outreach Committee. Critical components the committee will look for in each project proposal include. . .
  1. two project champions;
  2. personal and meaningful interaction with those the project serves and thus potential to make a transformative difference; and
  3. forethought on a recruitment and communication plan which engages Reveille’s membership.
All project applications must be submitted before May 1, 2008 to be considered for the next budget cycle.  Click here to download the Outreach Project Application (pdf).

Additionally, the Outreach Committee hopes to focus our current outreach efforts locally by partnering with a specific community in Richmond whereby we can develop a more continuous and “transformative” relationship of service.

The Outreach Committee has further proposed to Church Council that Reveille support at least one international mission yearly, that project champions be included as members of the Outreach Committee, and that Reveille investigate new project funding strategies which specifically link giving (and thus congregational support) to specific projects.

We are excited to be a part of this new process and gladly welcome questions and constructive feedback.
