Reveille's Partnership for Communities of Shalom
As part of our commitment to focused and transformative outreach projects, Reveille’s outreach committee, with the support of our Church Council, has selected the Swansboro neighborhood community with which to partner. We are using United Methodist Urban Ministries of Richmond (UMUMR) as our facilitator for this partnership through their “Communities of Shalom” model. UMUMR has already facilitated seven successful urban partnerships in Richmond.

The process involves engaging Swansboro community leaders and Reveille members to form a team (preferably 10 or more team members) to be trained by UMUMR in needs assessment, resource identification, and project design. Implementation of the project will involve our entire congregation. Additionally, we anticipate tapping specific passions Reveille members already embrace and creating new projects that will make a transformative difference for both the Swansboro community and Reveille.

We invite all Reveille members to prayerfully consider joining this team. Criteria for participation include open mindedness, flexibility, a passion for outreach, and the ability to commit to one Saturday per month for five months beginning on October 18, 2008.

If you are interested in becoming a team member on this flagship project, please call or email Al Rogers (314-2617 / ahrog@aol.com) or Terry Dozier (754-2340/ tdozier@vcu.edu) for more information. It is our hope that through this project, Christ’s work through Reveille will transition from charity to personal compassion to social justice in a visible, measurable, and sustainable way.
